Binomial
Also known as jequirity bean, abrus seeds are used in percussion instruments, rosaries, and necklaces. These uses are highly discouraged! They can be used in spell bags and bottles to attract good luck, but Witch Academy recommends using any of the items in the "Luck" sections of the grimoire. We include abrus in this grimoire for historical reference and strongly advise only admiring this beautiful plant (which looks somewhat like a mimosa) but never using it magically or medicinally. Leave it be, there are FAR better substitutes for luck.
Medicinal Properties
🕱 Contains abrin, an extremely toxic, water soluble, ribosome inhibiting protein (like ricin found in castor beans) that is dangerous even in small doses. This deadly toxin can be easily released if the brightly colored seed coat is damaged. Abrus seeds are the only natural source of this toxin. Its traditional use for beads and rosaries puncture the protective outer coating of the seed and is extremely dangerous. Contact with the seeds can cause skin irritation. Absolutely do not consume and seriously consider alternatives!
